Oil Paintings               please click on image for larger version & details

Working in oils, I begin with birch panels, first applying two coats of sealer and two coats of gesso, then two or more coats of acrylic metallic paints, gold, silver and bronze, each layer building up a rich textured surface. At this point I am as likely to paint with my hands as brushes to apply oil paint over all this, wearing gloves. It feels wonderful, direct and personal.

My current work is what I call abstracted landscapes. Abstracted images drawn from my memories of places I have experienced either by living with the environment or sometimes a brief glimpse of cloud shadows or a distant storm of rain veils kissing the land. When a place touches me I paint it with it s changing aspects again and again, often years later.
